Iver Heath Junior School

Slough RFC was pleased to run an after-school rugby taster session at Iver Heath Junior School.

Youth section coaches Colin and Mary took pupils through a few passing and tagging games before finishing with a game of tag rugby. The pupils seemed to enjoy the session and hopefully we will see a few of them at the club over the next few Sundays.

Nex Gen You rugby camp

Club Safeguarding Officer Sandie Belcher was pleased to support Christian Wade's first Next Gen You rugby camp. Sandie was the Safeguarding Officer for the duration of the camp which saw 50 junior players from a number of local clubs take part over 3 days.

Castleview School Summer Bonanza

The club stalls last event before the summer holidays saw us at Castleview School Summer Bonanza today.

It was a really good opportunity to get into one of our local schools and an enjoyable afternoon was had with lots of boys and girls stopping by to take our throwing challenge and many parents asking for more information about the club and youth rugby.

Many thanks to Mary, Laurence, Dylan, Rishi and Sunehna for running the stall and to Monica for inviting us :)

Langley Carnival

Members of Slough RFC youth section had a stall at the annual Langley Carnival where they invited people of all ages to 'Give Rugby A Try'.

It was great to see lots of people wearing one or more of our wristbands by the end of the day and many throwing and kicking about the mini rugby balls they had won at our stall.

A big thank you to Mary, Kevin, Laurence and Monica who ran the stall and to youth players James, Rishi and Sunehna who did a great job of leafleting around the carnival and in the local shops.

Priory School Commonwealth Games week

Priory School kicked off their Commonwealth Games week with a day of rugby taster sessions run by Slough RFC youth coaches Mary and Martin.

Assisted by Wasps Development Officer Dan Pearson, the coaches ran sessions for years 1,2 and 6 and introduced over 250 children to some of the games used by the club’s KIDS FIRST section. The children seemed to enjoy the sessions and it was good to revisit the school and strengthen links after our first visit last year.

Thank you to all at Priory for a warm welcome and to Dan for his support.
We look forward to working with you all again soon.

Cippenham Carnival

Members of Slough RFC youth section manned a stall for the club which included a spinning wheel game and information, items and photos from the youth section.

A lot of information was given out and a good number of people signed up to receive a follow up email. It was a very successful day and a welcome opportunity to get involved in the local community.

A big thank you to Youth Chairman Martin Tilby, U9s coach Laurence Moore, U9s player James Moore and club supporter Andrew Leighton-Pope who ensured that Slough RFC had a good presence at the event and to London Irish RFC for their prize donations.

Mile for Smiles funday

A good day at the Miles for Smiles fun day today with a lot of interest in our tag rugby taster session :) Thank you to coaches Colin and Greg and their families for enabling Slough RFC to have a presence at the event.

Chalvey CAFF

U10s coach Colin and family attended CAFF Eid celebrations to run some rugby activities for local families. Lots of families attended to participate in a variety of sports at the event and enjoy the food.

Slough RFC volunteer Paula Hammond who arranged for the club to attend said
'Massive thank you to Colin, Donna, Mason, Maddie and James, who helped at the CAFF today running a rugby taster session. The feedback from the families who attended and the organisers of the club has been amazing. Chrissy was thrilled with Colin's interaction with the families and the older kids who joined in.'

Colnbrook Primary School wellbeing week

Youth coaches Mary and Martin visited Colnbrook Primary School to run a day of rugby taster sessions for years 2-6 as part of the school’s wellbeing week.

Approx. 150 boys and girls were taken through some popular youth rugby drills, skills and games to introduce them to the sport. Many pupils had little previous experience or knowledge of Rugby but there was plenty of enthusiasm to learn!

The club donated the rugby balls used during the day to the school to encourage rugby further and all pupils were offered a wristband and invited to join us at the club over the coming weeks for a follow up session.

KIDS FIRST Litter pick

Great job by our KIDS FIRST section who had a litter pick around the grounds with the Slough Anti-Litter Society after training this morning.

Over 31 bags of rubbish plus doors, cones and other larger items were collected from around the club and local area. Everyone enjoyed the litter pick and participating children received a certificate.

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to Paula for organising.
