Picnic in the Park

Thank you to everyone who supported yesterday’s Slough Rugby Club’s Picnic in the Park Community event. Despite a disappointing turn out the weather was fabulous. The club looks great and I think those who did attend enjoyed it. Special thanks to our visitors from High Wycombe RFC girls for coming along with their coconut shy and ducks.

Slough 5K Family Fun Run

The Slough Family 5K Fun Run took place in Upton Court Park next to the club.

The club supported the event by providing refreshments, bag drop, facilities and support to participants and organisers.

A number of club members also took part in the event including some of our KIDS FIRST section players, parents and coaches. A big well done to U7s Eshen, U8s Jigar and Leo, U9s Caleb, Harvey and Jayden and U10s Aaron who all took part in kit to represent the club and did fantastically well.

A good day was had by all and all the kids seemed to be more than happy showing off their medals! They should all be very proud of themselves.

A big thank you to youth coach Sandie who accompanied them around the course.

KIDS FIRST trip to The Clash

Approx. 40 members of the KIDS FIRST section went to Twickenham on Saturday to see the Bath v Bristol Bears derby day showdown billed as ‘The Clash.’

It was the first time a trip to a game has been organised for the section so we were quite pleased with the take up. It was also the first time to Twickenham for most and the first time watching any rugby at all for quite a few so hopefully a bit of a learning experience as well as an enjoyable day out ;)

Look forward to doing it again next year.

Wynford Phillips Festival 2019

650 boys and girls and their families joined Slough RFC for a celebration of KIDS FIRST Rugby at the 2019 Wynford Phillips Festival.

12 clubs sent teams to play in age groups U7-12s. Slough RFC was also pleased to welcome local school St Bernard’s Prep who were attending for the first time (and may be the first school to attend the event- TBC)

In good KIDS FIRST form, a number of mixed teams were created on the day so that more children got more playing time. Pools were also kept small and games were managed by the coaches of participating teams to ensure that players had the best experience possible.

Slough U7s had a great day of Tag Rugby with teams from Bracknell, Hillingdon Abbots, Richmond and Rams RFC.

Slough U9s made a slow start to their matches however made big improvements in play as their confidence grew throughout the day

Slough's small group of U10s formed a baabaa team with Rams RFC to give them some valuable match experience whilst the Slough/ Farnham Royal U12s baabaa team had an enjoyable time playing against friends old and new from Weybridge, Rams, Bracknell and Hillingdon Abbots.

Youth Chairman, Martin Tilby, said
“The Wynford Phillips Youth festival is back and with a bang.
It was great to see so many players, parents and coaches enjoying the rugby with smiles on their faces and the weather was an added bonus. The Wynford Phillips Youth festival is truly about putting KIDS FIRST.

Feedback from visiting teams has been extremely positive so far with many comments about how well run the event was. This could not have happened without the hard work of our volunteers. It is they who make these events run smoothly and successfully so thank you to everyone whether helping in the kitchen, bar, car parking, First Aid or in other areas and to all of the coaches and referees.”
