Slough RFC 1XV put in a highly commendable effort on Saturday afternoon, pushing a well-stocked Aylesbury side all the way in a competitive 15–8 contest.

Travelling with just 17 players, Slough knew they faced a tough endurance test against an Aylesbury squad boasting over 30 players. With the hosts rotating throughout the 80 minutes, Slough effectively had to adapt to fresh opposition in both halves. Despite the numerical advantage stacked against them, we showed impressive character and a refusal to let the game slip away.

First Half

Aylesbury capitalised on their early momentum, crossing the try line three times in the opening 40 minutes. Among their scores was a standout moment of flair; a crisp offload reminiscent of Sonny Bill Williams at his best. However, with Aylesbury missing all three conversions, Slough remained within touching distance.

Harley Edwards kept Slough on the scoreboard, kicking an excellent penalty to ensure the visitors stayed well in contention heading into the interval.

Second Half Response

At half-time, Slough regrouped the squad for a clear, constructive review. The response on the pitch was immediate and focused.

Slough raised their intensity in the second half, earning reward through a strong set-piece. Off a solid, forward-moving scrum inside Aylesbury’s 22 meter zone, Warren Kinson peeled left off the back to score Slough’s first try of the season. Although the conversion attempt missed, the momentum had noticeably shifted.

Defensively, Slough disciplined their line and held Aylesbury completely scoreless throughout the second half, working hard to neutralise the fresh runners coming off the hosts' bench.

Positive Foundations

While the final whistle confirmed a 15–8 victory for Aylesbury, the performance earned genuine respect from the opposition. Aylesbury’s players and coaching staff offered high praise after the match, commending Slough for their work rate and competitive spirit over the full 80 minutes.

The Slough squad and coaching team took plenty of encouragement from the fixture. Facing a full bench on away soil was a clear test of depth, and the team's strong second-half performance highlights plenty of promise as the season gets underway.
